A reported explosion at a BC Hydro substation in Saanich has cut electricity to over 700 customers in the area on Thursday.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., power went offline for 712 BC Hydro customers along Interurban Road near Royal Oak Shopping Centre and Beaver Lake.
Community members tell Victoria Buzz that the cause of the power outage was an explosion at a BC Hydro substation in the area and that traffic lights have gone down, affecting drivers.
According to BC Hydro’s website, the cause of the outage is “under investigation”.
At the time of publication, the energy supplier had dispatched crews to the area and workers were enroute.
