Saanich Police have issued a warning about a cougar that is believed to be hunting pets and animals in a residential area.

On Sunday, July 7th, police received multiple reports of a cougar in the area of Hampton Park along Tillicum Road between Burnside Road West and Regina Avenue.

While the feline was reportedly not aggressive towards people during these encounters, it was believed to be hunting animals and pets in the area.

Police are advising people in the area to be vigilant of their surroundings while out for walks, and to keep pets inside if possible.

BC Conservation Service has been notified of the sightings.
