A Campbell River RCMP officer sustained potentially serious injuries after being allegedly assaulted during an impaired driving investigation.
At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, November 17th, Campbell River RCMP responded to reports of an intoxicated man in his vehicle.
One officer responded to conduct an impaired driving investigation, and was allegedly assaulted by a 20 year old man.
This resulted in a “sustained battle” to restrain the suspect, and two members of the public helped the officer until backup arrived and eventually took him into custody.
“At this point in time we believe our officer will make a full recovery, but this is a disturbing reminder of the dangers our officers face on a daily basis while conducting routine investigations,” said Cst. Maury Tyre.
Alberta resident Jay Douglas has been charged with Assault of a Police Officer Causing Bodily Harm and Resisting Arrest, and is due to appear in court today.
