How to make 12 different dishes out of your 12 pack of quarantine KD

Share

Considering there’s a Kraft Dinner factory operating 24 hours a day just to meet demand, it sounds like we’ve all got a 12-pack of emergency KD in our cupboard.

Here are 12 recipes to save you from the boredom of daily mac and cheese, all made with ingredients you probably already have in your house.

FYI: If you really can’t leave the house at all and can’t get fresh milk, evaporated milk and powdered milk both work just as well.

Chili mac

You’ve probably already tried this. And if not you should, quarantined or not. If you’ve got ground beef in the freezer, go ahead and add that, tomato sauce, and half a can of your favourite beans.

Chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, and paprika make this dish *chef’s kiss*.

Tuna casserole

This is another recipe that lots of folks make even when they’re not trapped at home. Make your KD, then mix in a can each of tuna and condensed mushroom soup.

Season with a little oregano and garlic powder if you’ve got it, and throw in some drained diced tomatoes if you have some on hand. Go the extra mile and scoop it into a greased casserole dish, baking it at 350°C for 15 minutes.

KD “Carbonara”

There’s definitely a half-full bag of frozen peas kicking around somewhere in the back of your freezer. Throw these in alongside some bacon bits (real bacon preferred, but beggars can’t be choosers).

Crack an egg on top if you feel like getting fancy, but those two additions are probably enough.

Broccoli casserole

It’s almost fancy!

Add a little Dijon and freshly ground black pepper to your KD and mix in lightly steamed frozen broccoli.

Spoon everything into a greased casserole dish and bake it at 350°C for 15 minutes. Bonus points for topping it with breadcrumbs.

KD grilled cheese

Kraft Canada actually put this recipe on their website. Which means it’s probably good, right?

Taco mac

Season ground beef or pork with either a pack of taco seasoning or a combination of chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, and cayenne.

Add this and a tin of jalapeños to your Kraft Dinner and tuck in.

Buffalo-style

Super straightforward: chuck in a can of chicken and as much hot sauce as you can handle.

Add a little Worcestershire and an extra pat of butter if you want to get closer to “authentic” Buffalo sauce. But who are we kidding at this point.

Mac n veggies

No one’s deluding themselves – our beloved Kraft Dinner is not exactly health food. But getting fresh vegetables is difficult when you can’t leave the house.

So if you’re not exactly partial to frozen or canned veggies but know that surviving off boxed pasta alone isn’t realistic, use KD as a vessel for veggies. They’ll go down easier, promise.

SPAM

SPAM can actually taste good – at least when cooked right. So dig that forgotten can out of the bag of your pantry and slice half of it into little “lardons.”

Fry until crispy, then add your prepared Kraft Dinner right into the pan and stir in all that salty goodness. (If you want to make breakfast KD, toss a scrambled egg in there. We’re not judging!)

Curry and chickpeas

This is a recipe from popular YouTuber ‘You Suck At Cooking’, who has a whole video of other Kraft Dinner variants not included in this list.

It’s as simple as it sounds, though we’d recommend frying the chickpeas in a pan with curry paste, salt, and pepper before adding them to the cheesy goodness.

Hot dogs!

Yeah, you don’t need us to tell you this.

Hot dogs freeze well and are the perfect mix-in for when you just want to be a carefree kid again.

KD sushi

You read that right. If you’ve got nothing left to lose, or you’re just feeling really bored, make sushi out of Kraft Dinner. Do it. We dare you.

Do you have your own KD creation? Let us know in the comments below!
