28-year-old woman stabbed during attempted robbery at Nanaimo residence

A man who is well-known to police was arrested after allegedly stabbing and attempting to rob a woman early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred Wednesday April 29th, at around 2 a.m., in a residence on Glenayr Drive.

When Nanaimo RCMP arrived at the property, they found a woman with several serious but non-life threatening stab wounds.

The 31-year-old suspect, who is known to the victim, had allegedly attempted to rob the victim of an undisclosed amount of cash. He produced a knife and when the woman resisted, she was stabbed.

The 28-year-old victim was taken to hospital in Nanaimo for treatment.

The suspect, Nanaimo resident Michael Hansen, fled the scene before police arrived but was located nearby and taken into custody without incident. He was in possession of several knives.

Hansen was charged with assault with a weapon, robbery and uttering death threats.

He was released from custody and is due in court on July 21.
