Victoria restricting vehicle access and realigning parking at Beacon Hill Park, Dallas Road

In an effort to make it easier for people to maintain physical distances while they enjoy the long weekend, the City of Victoria is restricting vehicle access at Beacon Hill Park and on Dallas Road.

Starting Friday April 10th, primary roads within Beacon Hill Park will only be open to service and first responder vehicles on weekends.

Vehicles will be allowed to park along Douglas Street and on Nursery Road, with an increased number of accessible stalls.

However along Dallas Road, parking near the multi-use pathway construction between Dock Street and Lewis Street will be suspended over the coming holiday weekend as changes to allow parallel parking are completed.

City staff will also be in the area to remind people to maintain physical distancing, and inform them about playground and recreation facility closures.

“I look forward to seeing our parks bustling with playdates and picnics again one day, but right now we are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s advice to limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Lisa Helps in a statement.

“Now is the time for people to remain in their home municipalities and to use the parks and trail systems nearby. So if you do go out for exercise and fresh air, a walk close to home is your best option.”

The City of Victoria says CRD and city parks will remain open at this time, citing the fact that the risk of COVID-19 transmission is greater indoors than it is outdoors.
