Victoria just got 13 new handyDART buses from BC Transit

A total of 13 new handyDART buses have entered the BC Transit service system in Victoria as of May 28, according to a statement from the company.

They will replace existing buses in the fleet that are nearing the end of their service life.

The 26-foot light-duty Micro Bird G5 buses can carry up to 20 seated passengers each and can accommodate up to four mobility aids.

The buses also come equipped with a lift system near the rear to safely load and unload wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility aids.

All of the buses will have temporary vinyl panelling installed to protect both drivers and passengers during the ongoing pandemic.

Each bus costs approximately $176,000, and BC Transit plans to roll out 70 of them across the province in coming months.

Next, 15 new handyDART buses will be added to the Regional District of Nanaimo in mid-June.
