If you haven’t been privy to a ‘Pandemic Balcony’ performance yet, you’re missing out.
Local Italian performer Maria Manna has put a twist on the traditional “pot-banging” at 7 p.m. to show support for front line workers by hosting a live virtual performance from her balcony every night at the same time.
With most of her family living in Italy, Manna was inspired when she saw her fellow Italians singing from their balconies; so her husband suggested she do the same from their own in Langford.
Every evening without fail, she sings two songs from a variety of musical genres as many of her neighbours listen in—along with thousands of others from around the world via Facebook Live.
“When I saw that the Italians were singing from their balconies, I wanted to do the same”, says Manna.
“I wanted to let listeners know, we will all be ok and that sometimes a song can make you feel better and uplift you.”
Now, 75 shows and 165 songs later, Manna is bringing her songs to the stage at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort, for a special free concert this Sunday, June 14.
She will take the stage with other local musical talents like Maureen Washington, Shai Thompson, Duncan Meiklejohn, Scott Clarke, and Tim Kyle.
Joined by musicians Tom Vickery and Joey Smith, each vocalist will sing one solo followed by a duet with Manna.
Like her past performances, this Sunday’s final show will be streamed live on Facebook, but the Bear Mountain Resort will also be welcoming a limited number of people to attend the concert while practicing safe social distancing.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and follow signs upon arrival to the outdoor viewing area located behind the hotel.
