Oceanside RCMP have arrested a 40-year-old man for “aggressive” conduct and assault of two seniors at Wembley Mall in Parksville.

At around 10 a.m. on Monday July 13, police attended the BC Liquor Store at the mall where the suspect was reportedly yelling, pushing, and kicking at the display shelves.

Witnesses told police that the man then ran to the parking lot, pushed at least two elderly men, and was screaming and jumping on the roofs of several vehicles, and then fled the area on foot.

After that, police received several reports of the man running through residential yards and nearby parks.

One complainant provided an accurate description of the suspect and told police that he had just entered the farm field beyond Cedar Ridge Estates.

After containing the area, police were able to find and arrest the suspect on Church Road.

According to RCMP, the 40-year-old man has no fixed address and is well known to police. He is currently in custody and appeared in court on Tuesday.

Officers are now looking to hear from at least one of the men who was assaulted at the liquor store.

Anyone who was assaulted during this incident is asked to contact Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111 to report.
