Suspect arrested after early morning fatal shooting in Esquimalt

VicPD officers have arrested a man after they were called to the scene of a fatal shooting in Esquimalt Tuesday morning.

The police were called shortly after 5:30 a.m. to a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 600-block of Grenville Avenue for a report that a man had been shot.

Officers arrived and found a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries sustained in a shooting.

The victim was transported to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect had left the scene before police arrived. Officers located and arrested a suspect who was transported to cells at VicPD.

The investigation is now being treated as a homicide by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

Anyone with information about the incident, including possible witnesses, is asked to contact VIIMCU at 250-380-6211.

VIIMCU are continuing to investigate but believe the incident was a targeted shooting, with no wider risk to public safety.
