B.C. surpasses 1,000 dead in latest COVID-19 update

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 1,475 new cases of COVID-19 across the province from January 8th to January 11th, for a total of 58,107 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 287
  • Fraser Health: 736
  • Island Health: 59
  • Interior Health: 217
  • Northern Health: 173
  • Residents outside Canada: 3

The number of active cases in B.C. has decreased from 6,118 to 5,220.

There are now a total of 358 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 72 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

22 more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,010.

7,313 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring, after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 50,541 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

Six new outbreaks have been reported, at Avalon Gardens, the Gatehouse Group Home, Guildford Senior Village, Hart House long term care, Kin Village West Court, and Sun Creek Village.

Four outbreaks have been declared over, at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Baillie House, Chartwell Langley Gardens and Lakeshore Care Centre.

One new community outbreak has been declared, at Canim Lake First Nation The LNG Canada outbreak in Kitimat has been declared over.

In total, there are 50 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and 10 acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health

59 new cases were reported in the Island Health region on Monday.

As of Monday, there are 186 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 37 | Total cases: 374
  • Central Island: 117 | Total cases: 518
  • North Island: 32 | Total cases: 245

One new death was reported in the Island Health region. Eight people are currently hospitalized, including two in intensive care units.

Vaccinations

59,902 (+13,643) people have been inoculated against COVID-19 across B.C. with vaccinations from Pfizer and Moderna.

On Monday, the province had nearly used up their entire allocated supply of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, with more doses due to arrive by the end of the week.
