BC Ferries cancels majority of Tuesday sailings due to adverse weather

Share

With high winds forecasted across the province tomorrow, BC Ferries has cancelled almost all afternoon and evening sailings to and from Vancouver Island on Tuesday.

Strong southeasterly winds of 70 to 90 km/h winds are expected to hit the region on Tuesday morning.

According to Environment Canada, an approaching frontal system will spread very strong winds to Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

Winds will increase late Tuesday morning and persist into the evening.

The strongest winds are expected over exposed coastal sections near the Strait of Georgia, Haro Strait, and the Southern Gulf Islands.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations,” BC Ferries said in their advisory.

“We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience experienced as a result of these cancellations.”
