Highway 4 closures by Port Alberni shift to new times starting Tuesday

Share

Drivers and commuters in and around Port Alberni should prepare for some slight shifts to their trips starting this week.

As of Tuesday, weekday four-hour road closures on Highway at Kennedy Hill will move to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Ministry of Transportation says this new timing is based on community and stakeholder feedback.

New closure times will be more convenient for people travelling the route regularly, according to the province.

Construction on the Kennedy Hill Highway 4 safety project is over 60 per cent complete.

Improvements to the 1.5 kilometre stretch of road include widening to accommodate two full lanes and paved shoulders, realignments, and the addition of a rest area with a lakeside view that will be accessible to passenger vehicles, RVs, buses or transport trucks.

Daytime blasting and road closures for the highway construction are expected to continue through spring 2021.

The ministry thanks drivers and residents for their ongoing patience. Once complete, the Highway 4 Kennedy Hill Safety Improvement Project will create a safer, more reliable connection between Port Alberni and the west coast of Vancouver Island
