West Shore RCMP are seeking the rightful owner of a safe they recovered from a prolific thief in Langford.

The RCMP were notified of the thefts on December 27th. At least four vehicles in the 2400 block of Azurite Crescent had been rifled through.

Personal belongings were stolen from the vehicles, including identification and money.

After reviewing home surveillance footage, a 37-year-old male resident of Langford was identified as the suspect.

A search warrant of the man’s residence produced 25 pieces of stolen identification and other stolen personal belongings.

RCMP arrested the suspect on January 5th. He remained in custody for a court appearance on Wednesday.

The Langford man is charged with three counts of theft, four counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of failure to comply with recognizance.

RCMP say when he was arrested, the man was wanted on numerous warrants out of Victoria and was bound by court order for an unrelated investigation.

The suspect also has a lengthy criminal record and is well known to police.

Most of the stolen belongings have been returned to their rightful owners but RCMP are still looking to identify the owner of the safe.

Anyone who thinks the safe is theirs and can identify the contents should call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
