The first baby born on Vancouver Island in 2021 was welcomed at Nanaimo General Regional Hospital.
Gerald Patrick Doughty arrived 1 hour and 54 minutes into the new year to parents Taylor and Chris Doughty, weighing 9 lbs. 12 oz.
Baby Gerald is a younger brother to Henry.
While Gerald was the first baby born on Vancouver Island this year, the first baby born in BC arrived fittingly 21 minutes into 2021 and was born in Vancouver.
The province confirmed that the baby, weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces, was born at Women’s Hospital in Vancouver.
