Woman on motorized wheelchair struck by car in Nanaimo

RCMP are seeking witnesses after a woman on a motorized wheelchair was struck by a car in Nanaimo on New Year’s Eve.

The Nanaimo RCMP say the collision occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on December 31st in the 1800 block of Bowen Road.

Investigators say they have determined that a woman operating a motorized wheelchair entered the northbound lanes of Bowen Road in front of Tim Horton’s.

As she attempted to cross the two northbound lanes, she was struck by a green Kia Soul driven by an adult male.

The 63-year-old woman was taken to Nanaimo hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Police are asking that people who were in the vicinity of the collision and may have dashcam footage or cell phone video contact the Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250-754-2345, and quote file #2020-46146.
