BC reports 617 new COVID-19 cases and four new deaths on February 18th

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 617 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Thursday for February 18th for a total of 75,327 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 146
Fraser Health: 342
Island Health: 19
Interior Health: 17
Northern Health: 92

The number of active cases in B.C. increased from 4,150 to 4,348.

There are now a total of 224 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 60 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

4 more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,321.

Over 7,238 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 69,602 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

There are two new health facility outbreaks reported at Mission Memorial Hospital and Fleetwood Villa

The outbreak at Cariboo Memorial Hospital is now over.

There has also been a community outbreak at the Simon Fraser University Childcare Centre.

Island Health

There are 20 new cases on the Island as of Tuesday.

There are 153 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 44| Total cases: 572
  • Central Island: 97 | Total cases: 1,164
  • North Island: 12 | Total cases: 301

No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region. There is a total of 23 deaths to date.

18 people are currently hospitalized in the Island Health region, including seven people in intensive care units.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 180,691 people in B.C. have received a COVID-19 vaccine. 29,952 of those people have received their second dose.

There are 60 confirmed variant cases.

40 cases of the UK variant, 19 cases of the South Africa variant in BC 1 and one case of a Nigerian variant recorded in BC.
