A man who appeared to be intoxicated was arrested last night after he assaulted a staff member and bit a patron at a downtown restaurant.

VicPD officers were called to the restaurant in the 700-block of Yates Street shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Staff and patrons reported that a man had walked into the restaurant without a face mask.

When staff asked him to put on a mask, the man became violent and punched a staff member.

Several people, including staff and customers, restrained the suspect until officers arrived. While they were doing so the suspect bit a restaurant patron.

The man was held until he was no longer intoxicated and released on conditions.

VicPD are still investigating. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call (250) 995-7654, extension 1.
