BC health officials report 2,518 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day-period on Monday, March 29th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 2,518 new cases of COVID-19 across the province for the three-day period from Friday, March 26th to Monday, March 29th.

Cases Day-by-Day:

Friday to Saturday: 936
Saturday to Sunday: 805
Sunday to Monday: 774

There have been a total of 98,165 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 816
Fraser Health: 1,230
Island Health: 142
Interior Health: 156
Northern Health: 121

3 cases were from outside of Canada.

The number of active cases in BC increased from 6,245 to 6,902.

There are now a total of 299 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 79 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

Six new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,455.

9,996 people are under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 87,866 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

There have been three new health-care facility outbreaks.

There are currently 4 active outbreaks in long-term-care homes and 9 in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 140 new cases of COVID-19 today.

The number of active cases on the island increased by 67 cases to 333 remaining active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island –  Active cases: 168 (+51) │Total Cases: 941 (+78)
  • Central Vancouver Island –Active cases: 142 (+14) │Total Cases: 1,777 (+56)
  • North Vancouver Island – Active cases: 23 (+2)│ Total Cases: 503 (+7)

12 people remain in hospital with 1 in ICU.

There was 1 new death in the Island Health region.

29 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations and Variants

To date, 699,092 (+61,236) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 87,289  (+56) of which are second doses.

There have been 329 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province.

Of the total number of 2,233 confirmed variant cases, 413 cases are active and the remaining people have recovered.

Of the total, 1,915 cases were of the UK variant, 48 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 270 cases of the Brazil variant.
