The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,006 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, April 22nd.
There have been 122,757 cases since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
Vancouver Coastal Health: 241
Fraser Health: 600
Island Health: 37
Interior Health: 83
Northern Health: 42
Resident Outside Canada: 3
There are currently 8,733 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
12,846 people are under public health monitoring and a further 112,235 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 502 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 161 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
Four new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll 1,550.
Outbreaks
There has been a new outbreak reported at Mount St. Mary long-term care home.
There are currently 5 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 7 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health
Island Health reported 32 new cases and 307 active cases on the island today.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island – Active cases: 191 (+3) │Total Cases: 1, 606 (+21)
- Central Vancouver Island –Active cases: 84 (0) │Total Cases: 2,207(+10)
- North Vancouver Island – Active cases: 32 (-3) │ Total Cases: 598 (+1)
32 people remain in hospital with 4 in ICU.
There was one new death in the Island Health region.
34 people have died since the pandemic began.
Vaccinations and Variants
To date, 1,500,430(+43,484) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 88,475 of which are second doses.
Variants of concern were not updated.
As of yesterday, there were a total number of 6,179 confirmed variant cases, 163 cases are active and the remaining people recovered.
Of that total, 4,041 cases were of the UK variant, 76 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 2,062 cases of the Brazil variant.
