The BC Ministry of Health reported 862 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 21st.
There have been 121,751 cases since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
Vancouver Coastal Health: 200
Fraser Health: 557
Island Health: 25
Interior Health: 54
Northern Health: 26
Active cases in BC have decreased from 9,145 to 8,906.
There are currently 13,135 people under public health monitoring and 111,039 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 483 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 164 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
Seven new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll 1,546.
Outbreaks
There has been a new outbreak reported at Mount St. Mary long-term care home.
There are currently 5 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 5 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health
Island Health numbers are reported later in the day.
5 new cases were reported of COVID-19 today with 307 active cases on the island.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island – Active cases: 188 (-6) │Total Cases: 1,585 (+100)
- Central Vancouver Island –Active cases: 84 (-10) │Total Cases: 2,197 (+9)
- North Vancouver Island – Active cases: 35 (-3) │ Total Cases: 597 (+2)
31 people remain in hospital with 4 in ICU.
There were no new deaths in the Island Health region and 33 people have died since the pandemic began.
Island Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Mount St. Mary long-term care home.
Vaccinations and Variants
To date, 1,456,946 (+42,302) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 88,263 of which are second doses.
Variants of concern were not updated.
As of yesterday, there were a total number of 6,179 confirmed variant cases, 163 cases are active and the remaining people recovered.
Of that total, 4,041 cases were of the UK variant, 76 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 2,062 cases of the Brazil variant.
