420 new cases of COVID-19 reported by BC health officials on Friday, May 21st

The BC Ministry of Health reported 420 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, May 21st, for a total of 141,37 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 84
Fraser Health: 240
Island Health: 7
Interior Health: 58
Northern Health: 31

There are currently 4,507 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

135,068 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 319 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 107 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

6 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,667.

Outbreaks

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 112 active cases on the Island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 34 (-1)│Total Cases: 1,870
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 46 (-6) │ Total Cases: 2,410
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 32 (-1)│Total Cases: 679

11 people remain in hospital with 2 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

40 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

To date, 2,744,020 (+56,660) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 142,406 of which are second doses.
