BC health officials announce 2,174 new cases for a three-day period on Monday, May 3rd

The BC Ministry of Health reported 2,174 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, May 3rd.

There have been 131,656 cases of COVID-19 reported in BC since the pandemic began.

Cases day-to-day:

Friday – Saturday: 835
Saturday – Sunday: 671
Sunday – Monday: 668

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 438
Fraser Health: 1,509
Island Health: 61
Interior Health: 106
Northern Health: 60

There are currently 7,327 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

11,781 people are under public health monitoring and a further 122,518 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 474 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 176 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

15 new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,596.

Outbreaks

There is one new healthcare outbreak at Lion’s Gate Hospital.

There are currently 8 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 7 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health

Island Health reported 60 new cases and 212 active cases on the island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 111 (-29) Total Cases: 1,766(+30)
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 83 (-10) Total Cases: 2,308 (+24)
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 18 (-5) Total Cases: 625 (+6)

15 people remain in hospital with 5 in ICU.

There was one new death in the Island Health region.

38 people have died since the pandemic began.

Vaccinations

To date, 1,877,330 (+90,608) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 91,731, of which are second doses.
