BC health officials report 250 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, May 26th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 250 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, May 26th, for a total of 142,886 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

Vancouver Coastal Health: 84
Fraser Health: 109
Island Health: 9
Interior Health: 40
Northern Health: 8

There are currently 3,580 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

137,517 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 296 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 97 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

Three new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,683.

Outbreaks

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 2 outbreaks in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 96 active cases on the Island today.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 28 (-2) │Total Cases: 1,883
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 39 (+3)│ Total Cases: 2,429
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 28 (+1)│Total Cases: 687

11 people remain in hospital with 3 in ICU.

There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.

40 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

To date, 2,979,951 (+52,464) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 152,010 of which are second doses.

All remaining AstraZeneca vaccine is being held for dose-two booster immunizations.
