Electronic Arts (EA) has added another sports game to its collection after the acquisition of a Victoria-based video game developer.

On May 5th, EA announced that it has come to an agreement to purchase Metalhead Software for their EA sports division.

MetalHead Software, the makers of Super Mega Baseball, confirmed the acquisition on Twitter.

It’s been over a decade since EA released its last simulation baseball game, MVP 07: NCAA Baseball.

MetalHead software will remain at their downtown Victoria location, and the purchase, they said, will allow them to develop new gaming and sports experiences for players worldwide.

Super Mega Baseball’s last title launched in 2020, and the franchise has often been looked at as an alternative baseball game for Nintendo, PC, and Xbox players before this year that didn’t have access to MLB The Show.

EA Sports publishes sports video games such as FiFA 21 and NHL 21, and EA Sports EVP and GM Cam Weber expressed EA Sports’ admiration for the Victoria-based game developers.

“We’re all players of Super Mega Baseball, and we’ve long admired the work of the Metalhead team,” Weber said via press release.

“It’s a unique and beloved franchise among sports gamers – the balance and depth of gameplay, and the unique style of the content, makes it super fun to play with friends.”

While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, Metalhead and its IP will be under the ownership of the leading sports publisher, EA.
