Man armed with improvised weapon arrested at downtown church in Victoria

VicPD arrested a man armed with an improvised weapon after he kicked open the doors of a church in downtown Victoria.

Staff at a church in the 700-block of View Street had called 911 just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26th.

When officers arrived they located the man who had armed himself with an improvised weapon from the church.

Police discharged both OC spray and ARWEN less-lethal munitions in order to take the man into custody.

The man was transported to hospital for mental health evaluation, decontamination from the OC spray, and to be medically assessed.

There were online reports that there were shots fired on Wednesday afternoon.

This incident remains under investigation
