Police watchdog investigating after dog bite injury during man’s arrest in Saanich

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has launched an investigation of a police arrest that took place in Saanich earlier this month.

According to the IIO, on May 20th at around 11 p.m., officers with Saanich Police responded to an altercation involving a man with a weapon on the Lochside Trail.

Attending officers found a man on a wooden bridge on the trail between Saanich Road and Quadra Street.

According to the IIO report, an interaction occurred, and a police service dog with the Integrated Canine Service was used to assist in the arrest.

The man sustained a dog bite injury and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The watchdog is now investigating to determine the details of the arrest leading up to the dog bite.
