Victoria man wins $60K on Keno draw using his own lucky number combination

One Victoria resident had to double check his lottery ticket after realizing he won over $60,000 from a Keno draw on February 27th.

“When I first saw the win amount, I couldn’t believe it and had to check it two more times!” said Jason Ernst, after checking the BCLC Lotto! app the day after the draw – and finding out he won a whopping $60,036.

The Victoria man bought the ticket from Fairway Market on Jacklin Road using his own set of numbers that he enjoys playing with.

Ernst noted his family did not initially believe he won, as they often joke with each other about winning the lottery.

About his win, Ernst said, “It feels really good and surreal… it’s just a great feeling to be a winner!”

He discovered his ticket was a winner after scanning it at a drugstore in Sooke where he likes to buy his cream every Saturday.

After he realized that the machine freeze was not due to a technical glitch — but a major win — the Vancouver Islander said he immediately shared the news with his fiance.

“Her first reaction was disbelief as I tend to joke a lot,” OLeary admitted, “but I would never joke about something like this. Once she realized this was true, she was shocked and repeated ‘Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God!’,” he said.
