BC health officials report 148 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, June 9th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 148 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, June 9th

There have been 145,843 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 23
  • Fraser Health: 75
  • Island Health: 10
  • Interior Health: 32
  • Northern Health: 8

There are currently 1,975 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

142,106 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 195 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 47 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

3 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,725.

Outbreaks

There are currently 5 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted-living facilities and 1 outbreak in acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 24 (+7)│Total Cases: 1926
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 8 (-0) │ Total Cases: 2448
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 9 (+5)│Total Cases: 699

3 people remain in hospital with 0 in ICU.

There have been no new deaths in the Island Health region.

41 people have died since the pandemic began

Vaccinations

74.5% of all adults in B.C. and 72.4% of those 12 and older have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

To date, 3,749,758 (+64,418) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 390,264 (+44,756) of which are second doses.
