One major movie theatre company has announced they will be reopening locations next week, as part of BC’s restart plan.

On Tuesday, June 15th Cineplex Theatres said they are set to open their doors to eager movie watchers.

Since March 2020, movie theatres have been hit hard with restrictions including full closures or limited seatings since the pandemic began. Since November, theatres were shut down when provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry banned social gatherings and events.

Theaters will be managing the number of movie go-ers allowed inside, limiting up to 50 people in a theatre at a time.

Capacity within theatres is expected to increase July 1st if COVID-19 cases continue to drop.

Moviegoers will be required to wear masks, but can take them off to eat once seated.

Local theatres set to re-open include:

  • SilverCity Victoria Cinemas, Victoria
  • Cineplex Odeon Victoria Cinemas, Victoria
  • Cineplex Odeon Westshore Cinema, Langford
  • Galaxy Cinemas Nanaimo, Nanaimo

To celebrate their re-opening, theatres will be premiering two highly anticipated features: A Quiet Place Part 2 and Cruella.
