Man struck by BC Transit bus on Douglas Street Tuesday morning

Traffic was snarled on Douglas Street Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was struck by a BC Transit bus.

The incident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. on the corner of Douglas Street and Burnside Road.

According to witnesses,  the pedestrian was crossing Douglas Street when he was struck.

The bus was in service at the time of the incident but no passengers or the driver were injured.

Photos from the scene show the front windshield of the bus shattered by the impact, though reports indicate that the man is alert and talking.

“We’re aware of an incident this morning at Douglas and Garbally involving a BC Transit bus and pedestrian,” a spokesperson with BC Transit told Victoria Buzz.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in the incident; the pedestrian, the passengers on board and our transit operator.”

BC Transits said they are supporting the police investigation into this matter, and if anyone witnessed this incident, are asked to contact the Victoria Police department.

“As this is an active investigation, any further requests for information should be directed at the police. Our top priority is safety, and BC Transit will also be undertaking an internal investigation.”

Drivers should expect traffic delays.
