Man arrested after threatening beachgoers with knife near Beacon Hill Park

One man is in custody after he threatened people with a knife at a popular beach near Beacon Hill Park on Wednesday.

Just after 5 p.m., several people called 911 to report that a man armed with a knife was threatening people on the beach near Finlayson Point.

VicPD officers swarmed the area, located the man in the park near Finlayson Point, and took him into custody at gunpoint.

During a search of the man, police located a knife and drugs in his possession.

After further investigation, police discovered that the man had specifically targeted a person on the beach, threatening to stab them.

Witnesses told police that the suspect also threatened to harm others as well.

The target victim, along with another person in the vicinity, armed themselves with sticks for protection while others nearby were able to retreat and call 911.

The victims and the suspect were not known to each other.

No one was physically injured in the incident.

The suspect was transported to cells where he was held for morning court where he faces recommended assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and drugs possession charges.
