A Victoria man was arrested for an alleged indecent act near a high school this week in Sooke.

On the afternoon of Wednesday October 13th, officers with the Sooke RCMP were called to investigate several reports of a man allegedly seen committing an indecent act in a truck.

His truck was parked near Edward Milne Community School, located in the 6200-block of Sooke Road, but the man fled before police arrived.

Officers were able to identify the man based on witness reports and that same evening officers located the suspect, 34-year-old Victoria resident, Andrew Durant.

Durant was arrested without incident and was held in custody until his court appearance on October 14th, where the court approved one count of committing an indecent act in a public place in relation to the incident.

Sooke RCMP stated that they have been in close contact with the school administration and provided them relevant information to help ensure student safety.

Durant’s next court appearance is Thursday, October 21st.
