A foot pursuit in downtown Victoria ended up in one man’s arrest this past weekend after an alleged carjacking attempt.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 31st, VicPD responded to a report in the 700-block of Johnson Street when a man was allegedly attempting to break into an occupied vehicle.

According to the victim, a man tried to open his vehicle and then smashed the rear window of their car while they were attempting to drive out of a parkade.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and when officers located them a foot pursuit gave way.

VicPD officers deployed a conductive energy weapon (CEV) on the suspect during the pursuit, which was ineffective.

The suspect was apprehended after additional responding officers took the suspect to the ground in the area of Johnson and Broad streets.

VicPD believe this incident was an attempted carjacking.

The suspect has since been released from VicPD cells with a court date and conditions – VicPD cited Bill C-75 as reason for his release.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
