Victoria landlord apprehends suspect after observing alleged break-and-enter by security camera

A Victoria landlord who observed an alleged break-and-enter in his home apprehended a suspect until he was arrested Wednesday. 

At approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon VicPD officers responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a home in the 1200-block of Bay Street. 

According to the report by tenants within the building, a man had smashed a window and broken into an upstairs suite belonging to the building’s landlord. 

At the same time the crime was being reported to the police, the landlord observed the suspect breaking into their suite via CCTV footage. 

The landlord returned to the home to find the suspect inside his suite in the process of stealing his belongings. 

The landlord apprehended the suspect and held the man until police arrived. 

Officers arrived on scene, took custody of the man without further incident and transported him to VicPD cells.

No one was physically injured. 

According to police, the suspect is 48-years-old and has twelve previous break and enter convictions. 

The suspect is awaiting a bail hearing and faces recommended charges of break and enter and theft.
