BC health officials report 437 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, December 10th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 437 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, December 10th.

There have been 222,013 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 90
  • Fraser Health: 105
  • Island Health: 127
  • Interior Health: 93
  • Northern Health: 22
  • Resident outside Canada: 0

There are currently 2,994 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

216,542 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 211 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 72 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

3 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 2,381.

Outbreaks

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks in the province.

The outbreak at St. Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health) has been declared over.

There are a total of 4 ongoing health care outbreaks in the province.

There are currently no health care outbreaks in the Island Health region.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 127 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 564 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 145 │Total Cases: 5046
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 200 │ Total Cases: 6282
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 219 │Total Cases: 2098

34 people remain in hospital with 9 in ICU. 

There was 1 new death reported in the Island Health region today, and a total of 131 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

As of Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, 86% of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.2%  have received their second dose.

In addition, 91.4% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 88.4% received their second dose and 12% have received a third dose.

Also, 91.8% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 88.9% received their second dose and 13% have received a third dose.

To date, 8,919,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 4,097,320 of which are second doses.
