BC Transit issues apology after printed schedules were temporarily removed at bus stops

BC Transit has issued an apology after temporarily removing printed schedules at bus stops across Greater Victoria.

According to the company, on November 29th, all printed schedules were removed from the region and replaced with a poster encouraging riders to check the BC Transit website for bus schedules and details.

The move triggered backlash from riders online, including advocacy groups for those with disabilities.

According to BC Transit, December schedules were not printed and the posters replaced previous schedules as they knew they would not be able to achieve the previously set service levels for the month of December.

According to the press release issued by BC Transit, like many public-facing organizations, the company is facing temporary labour shortages

The company said it is working to resolve their labour shortage as soon as possible through actively recruiting transit operators, hiring more drivers as well as people with strong customer service skills.

As a result of the shortage, schedules have had to be adjusted on short notice. Therefore, printed December schedules would not be up to date or accurate.

Since taking down the schedules from bus stops, the company has received several complaints regarding the decision.

“The organization recognizes that this decision has caused additional barriers for some of our customers, and for that BC Transit apologizes” BC Transit said in a release.

“The feedback we’ve received will help inform our future decisions.”
