It’s almost Family Day!

This long weekend, get out in the sunshine and spend some time with your loved ones.

This year, the BC government made an annual investment to support free community activities for Family Day, which totalled $229,000.

This funding will support online and physically distanced in-person activities hosted by recreation centres, parks, cultural centres and museums this long weekend.

The government has also created an online list, organized by location, where families can find local, free activities close to them to participate in.

“I really hope that you get to celebrate this Family Day long weekend with your loved ones in person! No matter how you define your family, family is most important. Taking time to celebrate with loved ones and making memories together is priceless,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

“Now that the restrictions on gatherings have been lifted, I encourage you to check out the links below for free family-friendly activities happening in your community this weekend.”

Events in Victoria include a family skate at GR Pearkes Recreation Centre, family swim at Oak Bay Recreation Centre and Family Day at Royal Athletic Park

The Royal BC Museum will also be holding a full day of family-friendly digital programs, including a behind-the scenes museum tower tour, museum trivia, a Brazilian cooking tutorial and an IMAX movie screening that can be viewed from the comfort of your home.

The new Chinese Canadian Museum will offer in-person activities to highlight the Lunar New Year, including opening their Victoria Chinatown Fan Tan Alley temporary exhibition for its first Family Day weekend!

For in-person events, be sure to refer to each organization’s website to confirm reservation requirements and safety protocols.
