‘Serious threat’: Concerning phone call led to Vancouver Island school going into lockdown on Monday

A Courtenay secondary school went into lockdown Monday, after staff received a call involving a serious threat to the school’s students.

At around 2:14 p.m. on April 25th, staff at GP Vanier Secondary School received the concerning call, immediately implementing school safety procedures and calling 911.

Officers, along with Major Crime Investigators, responded immediately, entering the school to ensure there was no danger to staff and students inside.

“Our investigation is now focused on the source of the call into the school and we have been working closely with the School District,” said Constable Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer. 

“We recognize the impact of a call like this on students, staff, and parents and are continuing to prioritize this investigation.”
