Saanich Police have identified an elderly woman who was randomly shoved to the ground last week near Uptown.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday May 25th, in the 3300-block of Oak Street.

Video surveillance released by Saanich Police shows the elderly woman walking on the sidewalk toward Saanich Road when an unknown woman pushed her to the ground.

Sgt. Damian Kowalewich told Victoria Buzz witnesses saw the woman being pushed to the ground seemingly randomly by another person.

Officers located the 37-year-old female suspect a short time later and as police took her into custody, she spat on one of the arresting officers.

The victim had left the scene prior to police arrival prompting a search for her through the media which police say was vital in them being able to lay charges against the suspect.

The victim, who thankfully didn’t suffer any physical injuries, has been offered various resources related to the event, police said.

Kowalewich said investigators are looking into all factors that caused the incident, and are recommending charges of assault and assault of a police officer against the suspect.
