One Oak Bay driver is going to have some explaining to do, after being caught in his mother’s vehicle going nearly double the legal speed limit.
Police issued a ticket to a young driver and impounded his vehicle last month after he was caught driving 57 km/hour over the legal, posted speed limit.
On June 27th, officers conducting speed enforcement in the 900-block of Beach Drive heard a loud revving sound coming from an incoming vehicle.
According to Oak Bay PD, the initial vehicle speed estimated on scene was 95 km/h, however the use of a speed laser confirmed the vehicle was travelling at 97 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.
The 20-year-old driver, who had been driving his mother’s car, was issued a $368 fine for excessive speeding and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The driver, along with both passengers, were picked up by a friend.
