RCMP have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 34-year-old Nanaimo man after he failed to appear in court this week.

According to officers, Michael Bonson has had several interactions with police throughout central Vancouver Island that have involved either drugs, illegal weapons or resisting arrest with the most notable occurring in late September 2020.

In this incident, an officer pulled over Bonson during a traffic check and found he was in possession of illegal drugs.

When the officer began to arrest Bonson, he resisted and a violent struggle ensued.

During the altercation, an officer deployed his taser, however, it was ineffective with Bonson breaking free and fleeing in his vehicle.

Two weeks later, North Cowichan RCMP found Bonson in a parked vehicle with a large quantity of illegal drugs, a set of brass knuckles, an imitation firearm, drug sheets and scales and promptly arrested him.

Since then, Bonson has failed to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court for this incident, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Bonson is wanted for resisting arrest, possession for the purpose of trafficking x5, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon and fraud.

Bonson is described as Caucasian, standing 5’11” tall and weighing 180 pounds with short, balding blonde hair.

According to officers, he is known to sport a moustache, goatee or beard.

Anyone with information on Michael Bonson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
