An epic meteor lit up the skies over Victoria last night (VIDEO)

Share

Did you catch a glimpse of the meteor last night?

At approximately 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday night, a meteor lit up the sky just south of Victoria for about four seconds.

The meteor appeared to Victorians as a blueish green orb dashing across the sky then burning up just as quickly as it appeared.

It was seen as far away as Creston, BC, Roseburg, OR and Cumberland, BC according to the American Meteor Society (AMS). Over 143 sightings and counting of the meteor were reported to the meteor authority since it appeared in the sky Wednesday night.

The meteor is believed to be part of the Orionids, a meteor shower that stems from Halley’s comet and is named after the constellation Orion.

This is due to the fact the meteors often appear to be coming from the direction of that configuration of stars.

Keep your eyes on the skies, the Orionids will be visible until November 22nd, peaking on the evening of October 20th.
