Armed with a baseball bat, a knife and ammunition clips for a replica firearm, a man was arrested for committing robbery in the Burnside/Gorge area on Tuesday evening.

Police say they were called to the 400-block of Cecelia Road around 9 p.m. on Tuesday night due to multiple reports of a man chasing another man through the street with a baseball bat.

The person being chased was reportedly calling out to passersby for help and trying to get into other people’s vehicles for protection from his attacker.

Police say when they arrived on scene they were able to find the victim who had not been physically injured.

They found out from the victim that he had been robbed before the suspect fled the scene.

A short time later police say they located the suspect in the 400-block of Burnside Road and arrested him there.

While searching the man, police reportedly located on his person a concealed knife, a wooden bat and clips for a replica firearm.

Once identified, VicPD determined their suspect was in breach of multiple court-ordered conditions, including conditions not to possess knives.

He was then transported to VicPD cells where he awaits a preliminary court hearing.

Police ask that if you have information about this incident and have not yet spoken with officers, call VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
