One person has died following a house fire early Wednesday morning in Whiskey Creek.

Emergency crews were called to a residential property around 1 a.m. on February 22nd in the 3800 block of Marples Road.

Responding firefighters from the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department arrived to the property to find the home fully-engulfed in flames.

Phillip Tiicham Muir who captured footage of the flames and lives on a neighbouring property said he called the fire department at 12:54 a.m. and the majority of flames were all suppressed within an hour.

“Thank you to Coombs-Hilliers Fire Fighters and Oceanside RCMP for your quick response and hard work tonight,” said Tiicham Muir.

“I wish I could say no one was hurt, but it is very highly likely that our neighbour, the property owner, died inside.”

Oceanside RCMP confirmed there was one fatality as a result of the fire.

“At this time, the cause of the fire and cause of the death of the person is currently under investigation by Oceanside RCMP in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service and the Office of the Fire Commissioner,” said Sgt. Shane Worth.

The cause of the fire and death remains under investigation.

Police said no other details are being released at this time.

Thank you to Coombs-Hilliers Fire Fighters and Oceanside RCMP for your quick response and hard work tonight! This is our next door neighbour’s property at the corner of Winning Way and Marples. I called the fire department at 12:54am and the majority of flames were all surpressed within an hour.I wish I could say no one was hurt, but it is very highly likely that our neighbour, the property owner, died inside.
