A coffee shop in Langford was closed for several hours Sunday after police were called to the store when a woman locked herself in the bathroom for some time and wasn’t responding to staff.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 26th, at the Starbucks in the 700 block of Goldstream Avenue.

Responding West Shore RCMP officers were able to quickly access the restroom, where they found the woman slumped over the toilet unresponsive with a faint pulse.

Police said there was evidence of drug paraphernalia strewn about and believed the woman was suffering from an overdose.

The officers immediately administered two doses of Naloxone to the woman, who began to wake up and became more responsive.

The woman was monitored by police until paramedics arrived and transported her to hospital for further treatment. She is expected to recover.

“It is important that the public be aware of possible overdose situations and know how to respond. If you think that someone is having a drug overdose, call 9-1-1 immediately,” said Cst. Andrew Matheson, a West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

“We want to thank both the business staff and RCMP officers for their quick actions which resulted in the woman’s life being saved.”
