Investigators are seeking witnesses and video following a single-vehicle crash in Cobble Hill that resulted in the death of a Victoria woman.

In a media release, Police said on Sunday February 26th at about 7 a.m., a Shawnigan Lake RCMP officer was flagged down moments after a single vehicle collision near the intersection of Trans Canada Hwy and Fisher Road.

Paramedics and fire rescue attended to the scene immediately and began performing first aid measures on the vehicles two occupants, tragically the passenger of the small blue Nissan did not survive the injuries she sustained in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital for serious injuries.

Investigators believe that the vehicle was travelling northbound when the passenger side of the vehicle struck a left turn traffic signal, slid down the highway nearly 330 feet before striking a barrier and coming to rest against it.

“The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for several hours while investigators conducted their investigation into what caused the collision,” said Sergeant Chris Manseau, media relations officer for the BC RCMP.

Anyone who witnessed or captured dashcam footage of the scene and has not yet spoken with police, are asked to please contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP Detachment at 250-743-5514.
