Share

Bouncers at a nightclub in Bastion Square spotted a man with what appeared to be a real handgun in his possession this weekend, and leaped into action in order to stop him.

On Sunday, March 26th at around 2 a.m., VicPD responded to a call that a man in a Bastion Square nightclub was armed with a handgun.

When officers arrived, the security staff at the nightclub had already disarmed the suspect and were holding him for police.

In a media release, police say that the suspect dropped what looked like a fully-functional handgun. He then picked it up and placed it in his waistband.

This is when security staff reportedly spotted the gun.

They created an action plan, called 911 and moved in on the suspect themselves. The bouncers disarmed him within two minutes of spotting the weapon.

VicPD officers were on scene soon after the suspect’s apprehension.

They were able to confirm that the weapon was a CO2 -powered handgun and is designed to fire paintballs, rubber balls or pepper balls. Although it wouldn’t fire a lethal shot, the gun resembles a fully functional firearm.

The suspect was transported by police to VicPD cells and this incident remains under investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information about this incident, call VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
