An arson suspect responsible for setting a fire inside the busy Nanaimo Walmart Supercentre last month remains at large.

On Wednesday February 22nd, a fire was deliberately set at around 1:45 p.m. in the diaper section of an aisle in the busy Walmart.

Police said the fire was quickly doused by an employee, however; the resulting smoke damage forced the store to be evacuated and close for several days to allow the building to be properly ventilated.

While the store has since reopened, staff say the inventory levels for the baby and clothing section remain low.

In a media release Wednesday, RCMP said no suspects have been identified.

“While the investigation is moving forward, investigators have not been able to identify a primary suspect, and that is frustrating,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
