Suspicious death in Ladysmith prompts Major Crimes Unit investigation: RCMP

Share

Ladysmith RCMP are investigating a dead body that was found on the shore of Davis Lagoon near Chemainus Road.

At around 1:10 p.m. on March 8th, police officers responded to the area of Lagoon Road near Chemainus Road after a witness reported they had seen a body on the shore.

Police say they confirmed what the witness reported was a woman’s dead body. Preliminary evidence suggested that it had been there for several days, and her death has been deemed suspicious.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) have since taken control of the investigation from Ladysmith RCMP.

A black Toyota Rav4 was at the scene on March 6th at the same location the woman’s body was found, and VIIMCU investigators are beginning their search for what happened by focusing on this vehicle.

“It is too early at this stage of the investigation to determine the leading cause of the individual’s death,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia.

“We are looking for anyone with video surveillance or dash cam footage from anyone who lives in the Davis Lagoon area from 11 p.m. on March 5th to noon on March 6th.”

“We are also looking to speak with anyone with dash cam footage who may have travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway during this time passing through Ladysmith and Chemainus.”

Currently, these are the only details the RCMP are willing to share with the public.

Anyone with information regarding what happened in this incident, including information about the black Toyota Rav4, should contact the VIIMCU information line at (250) 380-6211.
